Trustees: Mr Martin Richards, QPM

 

Chief Constable – Sussex Police

Martin Richards took up his post as Chief Constable of Sussex on 1 October 2007. 

Mr. Richards was previously Chief Constable of Wiltshire, a post which he held for three years. Mr. Richards has a degree in law from Bristol University and a Masters in criminology from the University of Cambridge. He served with Warwickshire Constabulary from 1982 to 1998, rising to the rank of Chief Superintendent and Force Crime Manager. 

During his service with Warwickshire, Mr. Richards spent a period lecturing in criminal justice in the United States and was seconded to the New South Wales Police in Australia to undertake a review of command units. 

He transferred to Avon and Somerset Constabulary as an Assistant Chief Constable, becoming Deputy Chief Constable in 2002, and was then appointed Chief Constable of Wiltshire in 2004.

Martin was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in 2008. Martin is married and has two sons and two stepsons.
