Trustees: Mrs Sandie Wilde
National Association of Retired Police Officers (England and Wales)
Originally from Cumbria, I joined the Manchester City Police, which eventually became GMP. I served 21 years in uniform, traffic and finally in the CID, after which I retired on an injury pension.
For 15 years I was a Federation Representative for policewomen and traffic officers, serving as assistant secretary to the Constables Branch Board; Chairing the North West PW Committee, and deputy to the National Policewomens representative.
I am married to Tony, a retired police officer, and have 3 children, two of which are teenagers still at home, 3 stepdaughters and 8 grandchildren.
On retirement I was unable to work and involved myself as a School Governor and running the PTA. I then furthered my education by obtaining a BA(hons) in English, and afterwards a Masters degree, for which I had to write a book.
I got involved in Narpo seriously in 2000, when the Manchester Branch were looking for new blood at the AGM. I became the Welfare representative, then the Vice Chair, and became the Chair in 2003. Since this time we have changed the image of Narpo in Manchester, firstly by forging links with the Federation, and afterwards in 2004, by setting up the automatic membership scheme which thrives, and has been adopted around the country by many other Forces. Our aim to attract more newly retired members, and keep them, is working. We run seminars to assist them in CV writing, interview technique and with job applications.
I joined the NEC in 2003, where my particular interests are Recruiting and the Police Dependants Trust, of which I am a Trustee, and Vice Chair of the Management Committee.
In 2008 I became the first woman to be made National Vice President of Narpo.
Once again I find myself heavily indebted to the PDT and thank you for the great generosity and kindness shown to me. I never do, or ever will, take such generosity for granted.
